Welcome to Andrea Catenaccio's 21st Century Teacher's Digital Portfolio! 100_5243[1].jpg(click on the link - picture of one of my 11th gr. English classes last year. I am holding the paper ready to start class!)
21st Century literacies include technological tools that help learners practice their critical literacy skills (reading, writing, and oral skills) within real world situations. Such technological tools enhance student learning because it enables learners to research topics from multiple sources and showcase their learning through various mediums (i.e. blogs or wikispaces). As a result, students are in better control of their own learning, granted that they are taught the proper Internet research techniques. Students can also showcase their talents and receive constructive feedback from their peers, parents, and other teachers. Feedback is no longer solely provided by the classroom teacher.
All of these opportunities are not possible if technology is not utilized within the classroom.
Therefore, we should expand our minds, classrooms, and challenge our students to become 21st century thinkers and learners! Also, our students will be better prepared to become independent learners and thinkers, and will be able to meet the challenges of using technology in any given workplace. Our "forward thinking," intelligent, and competent students will thank us in the future!
This portfolio showcases my current and future uses of twenty-first century literacies and technologies within my high school English classroom.
